FROM NECESSITY COMES INNOVATION
If we want to stem the tide of global warming, we need to decrease emissions. If we want to decrease emissions, we need clean energy. If we want clean energy, we have to make it fit the peaks and valleys of our energy demands.
This is what lead us to create TESS – our Thermal Energy Storage System.

Meet The Team

D’ARCY MANN
Founder
D’Arcy served as an Electrical and Mechanical Engineer in the Canadian Armed Forces before retiring due to service related injuries. Between his service in the army and living in a remote coastal island Indiginous community as a child, D’Arcy experienced the logistics, energy, and infrastructure challenges that affect northern and remote communities. D’Arcy invented TESS to solve grid storage problems and these issues.

HADI RAMIN
Mathematical Modelling
Hadi received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and joined TESS as a post doctorate fellow. His research focused on the transient analysis and optimization of fixed-bed regenerators (FBRs) for energy recovery in HVAC applications. Hadi also has 4 years of practice and research experience as a Mechanical Engineer and Research Assistant in Iran.

SOPHIE LOONE
Funding Liaison
Sophie Loone, a skilled professional in the health and biomedical sciences sector with a strong background in molecular biology, brings to TESS her extensive expertise in laboratory management, industry partnership development, and project leadership. Her technical specialization and proven track record in advancing research capabilities support TESS Research’s mission to drive scientific breakthroughs and innovation.

GURUBALAN ANNADURAI
Heat Pump Design
Guru holds a PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in membrane-based liquid desiccant air conditioning systems and went on become a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Department of Mechanical Engineering, USASK; working on ASHRAE, industry and NSERC funded projects on energy recovery ventilating equipment with a focus on increasing the energy efficiency of HVAC systems.

CAREY SIMONSON
Advisor
Carey’s research area is heat and moisture in air-to-air energy exchangers and HVAC systems. He maintains an NSERC funded research program in collaboration with national and international researchers and local industry (e.g., SNEBRN, NTNU in Trondheim, Norway and the University of Oulu in Finland). His research results are widely published in peer-reviewed journals and books (over 100 papers and book chapters) and conferences (over 70 papers).

KERWIN BOSER
Advisor
Kerwin was a founding partner in Magna Electric Corporation, holding senior roles in operations, sales and finance. His prior work in the power system industry was specializing in design, installation, and commissioning of transformers and switchgear and related protection systems. Kerwin’s work has taken him to over 40 countries around the world making him well versed in electrical generation and distributions systems world wide.
